The trigger close: body-close confirmation in the Fractal Model

Learn what the trigger line is, how a body close through it confirms the shift, and where the trigger close fits inside a model-timeframe trading narrative.

Davidovich Equity article cover for CISD trading explained: body-close confirmation in the Fractal Model

The trigger close is the mechanical confirmation event of the Fractal Model. It does not predict reversals; it timestamps them: price has body-closed through a defined line after moving the other way.

The trigger close

The first body close through the run open confirms.

A bullish example marks the open of the last bearish run and distinguishes a wick probe from a completed close.

The trigger close is the first chart-timeframe body close through the defined run open. A wick through the level remains pending, and the trigger close does not replace model-timeframe structure or location.

  • Trigger line
  • Wick only / pending
  • Body close / confirmed

The definition

The trigger line is the open of the last same-direction run before the shift:

  • Bullish trigger: price was moving lower; the open of the final bearish run is the line; a candle body-closes above it.
  • Bearish trigger: the mirror. The final bullish run's open, body close below.

A wick through the line is never the event. Only the close confirms, which cleanly separates three states: armed (candle forming), triggered (body closed through), and absent (window ended without the event).

The trigger close is confirmation, not context

You can find a trigger close on any chart if you look long enough. It only means something inside the operating order: directional context first, then model-timeframe structure at a qualified location, and only then the trigger close on the chart timeframe. Without location, a trigger close is just a lower-timeframe event.

Use the correct pair

Chart timeframe Model timeframe
1 minute 15 minute
3 minute 30 minute
5 minute 1 hour
15 minute 4 hour
1 hour 1 day
4 hour 1 day
1 day 1 week
1 week 1 month

These are FMP+'s core Automatic pairs; 1 second/1 minute and 15 seconds/5 minutes are deliberate fast-chart extensions. Published six-pair ladders elsewhere end with 4 hour/1 week and do not include FMP+'s higher-chart or fast-chart extensions, so the tables should not be treated as identical.

A 4-hour Reclaim is confirmed by the first closed 15-minute body through the trigger line, not by where the 4-hour candle eventually closes. The event can arrive before the model candle closes: FMP+ exposes that completed chart-timeframe evidence as the NOW heads-up, then finalizes the structural record at the model-timeframe boundary. NOW describes timing, never a relaxed rule.

Idealized bullish sequence for study; mirrored logic applies to bearish reversals. Not a signal and not a promised outcome.

Workflow

  1. Model timeframe first. Active candle, breach, qualified location. Missing? Stop.
  2. Direction before dropping down. The model-timeframe sequence defines bullish or bearish; color does not.
  3. The defined pair only. Not whichever chart looks cleanest.
  4. Mark the trigger line. The final opposing run's open; do not move it as candles print.
  5. Wait for the closed body. Everything else is armed, not triggered.
  6. Keep ownership. Once a reversal is confirmed, continuation advances Extend and Finish; it does not mint a new rolling Reclaim every bar. See Extend and Finish.

Common mistakes

  • Calling every close a reversal. The model-timeframe geometry and location still gate it.
  • Using a wick instead of the body close.
  • Letting the model-timeframe close rewrite the chart-timeframe event.
  • Moving the trigger line until a signal appears.
  • Treating a zone touch as entry confirmation. Location and confirmation are different jobs.

FAQ

Is the trigger close the same as a break of structure?

No. The trigger close is specifically a body close through the final opposing run's open. Other structure concepts use different anchors; do not blend definitions.

Can the trigger close confirm before the model-timeframe candle closes?

Yes. That is the NOW state: real confirmation on the chart timeframe, finalized at the model boundary.

Does a trigger close guarantee continuation?

No. It confirms a historical close through a line. Context, invalidation, and risk remain yours.
